Batman was first created in May 1939. The image above is from the 9th issue of Batman, appearing in March 1940. The image on this Batman t-shirt is a rendering of the orignial artwork done by the infamous Alex Ross. It is a spectacular piece of art of a nostalgic image from our American mythology. Compare both images. Ross has done a fantastic job of dusting off the older image, bringing it more to life with his realism while still maintaining a near exact duplication of the original art. The only thing I can see different is Batman's right hand extending out beyond his cape.
